Hi! We’re Andy & Andie, and this is our little whirlwind of joy (and somtime pure chaos), Mike. Welcome to Growing With Mike – a space where we share honest, funny, sometimes emotional, always real parenting stories from our life as a small but happy family.
We’re in our 30s, learning daily how to be parents, partners, humans, adults, and sometimes superheroes when the toddler drama hits. We’re not perfect parents. We’re just real parents, trying, failing, trying again, laughing a lot, and doing our best to raise a kind, happy little boy.
Our Family Story
We’re originally from a smaller town, but a few years before Mike came along, we moved to a bigger city in search of better opportunities and a life with more possibilities. We bought a three-room apartment (yes, with a 30-year mortgage – we’re officially adults now), created a cozy home, built stability, and decided that if there was ever a “right time” to have a child, this was it.
We didn’t have a surprise baby story.
We had a “we’re ready, we want this, let’s do it” story.
After Andie’s birthday, we decided to try. The doctor told us to relax, take folic acid, live life, and come back only if there were problems. There weren’t. Mike showed up pretty fast, and life hasn’t been the same since.
In the best… and wildest ways possible.
We Thought We Were Ready. Spoiler: Parenting Laughs at “Prepared”
Andy grew up helping raise a much younger brother, so naturally he believed he had everything under control. He was convinced he’d be calm, organized, capable, and the best support system.
Reality said: “That’s cute.”
Parenting said: “Hold my juice box.”
We both had mixed feelings about kids at different times in life: sometimes yes, sometimes no, sometimes “maybe later”. But when we crossed into our 30s, we knew:
✔️ we were financially stable,
✔️ emotionally ready,
✔️ not wanting to be “too old” to run, play and understand our child,
✔️ and we deeply wanted him.
So here we are. Exhausted sometimes. Amazed most of the time. Always grateful.
A Little About Us as Humans
We’ve been together since high school. We’ve gone through ups, downs, normal life storms, big changes, and a lot of growth side by side. We’re a close-knit couple, family-oriented, grounded, and slightly chaotic in the best way.
We love:
- walking together,
- being active (we even bought bikes and scooters like energetic teenagers who now sleep less 😂),
- cooking at home (but also enjoying food delivery when life gets… real),
- spending time with our close friends,
- laughing… a lot.
Life wasn’t always easy.
Andie grew up without siblings and spent part of childhood with grandparents after her parents separated. Andy’s mother fought breast cancer. We may talk about these chapters someday, because life isn’t only sunshine – and we believe in being honest.
But we’re here. Strong. Together. Positive. Laughing. Living.
Who We Are Today
Andy works from home as an SEO manager (which means he spends his days analyzing, optimizing, and occasionally arguing with Google).
Andie is an optometrist, currently a full-time mom but planning to return to work soon – and also the queen of home organization, cooking, patience, and emotional balance.
We even tried running a small olive oil business at one point… maybe one day we’ll tell that story too.
Most importantly – we are fully present in Mike’s life. We share responsibilities, we’re learning together, and we’re committed to being loving, supportive, emotionally available parents.
Meet Mike
Mike is currently 2 years and 10 months old – full of personality, stubbornness, sweetness, chaos, curiosity, and magic. He is the reason this blog exists. He is the reason we laugh more, sleep less, worry differently, love deeper, and see the world in a completely new light.
And his story – from birth to now and everything that comes next – lives right here.
Why This Blog Exists
We created Growing With Mike because parenting is beautiful… but also confusing, exhausting, hilarious, unpredictable, overwhelming and incredibly human. And we wanted to talk about it honestly.
No filters.
No “perfect Instagram family” masks.
Just real parenting.
We want:
- to share stories,
- to laugh with other parents,
- to say “hey, you’re not alone”,
- to document our journey as a family,
- and maybe, someday, for Mike to read it all and smile.
